Ingredients: Makes 6-8 rolls (halving the ingredients will make around 4 large size rolls)
- Strong flour - whole meal or white - 500g
- Salt - 5ml spoonful of salt (i do not like salty foods but if you feel you need more use more)
- Yeast - 2 7g yeast sachets (i used 1 the 1st time round and they took forever to rise)
- Warm water - 200-250 mls water
- Sugar - 5ml spoonful of sugar (personal taste)
- Flavourings - optional.
Method :
Step one: Add flour, yeast, sugar and salt into a bowl.and mix together. Make well in the mixture and start adding warm water abit at a time. Mix all together to form a dough. * If using flavourings add these to the mixture before adding the water *
Step 2: Sprinkle some flour onto a clean surface and knead the dough for around 10 mins.
Step 3: Divide your dough into ball shapes and place onto a greased baking tray. Cover and leave in a warm room for around 25-30 mins till they double in size
Step 4: Cook in the oven at 180 degrees for about 10- 15 mins, until they are golden brown. Serve warm with a soup or leave to cool and use as lunches.
Cost to make -
- Strong flour - between 80p and £2 depending on the size of the bag
- Yeast - 6 x 7g sachets from Asda - 65p
- Salt - usually in the cupboard so not sure on cost
- Water - free
- Sugar - 50p - £1 depending on size of bag and where its purchased
- Flavourings - dependent on flavouring.
To make a loaf of bread, just follow the same recipe and shape into a loaf instead of rolls. (use a loaf tin to cook if its easier)
Some flavouring ideas:
- Cheese and onion (pre cook the onion)
- Tomato (add some tomato puree)
- Garlic and herb
- Garlic
- Herbs

The list is endless to be honest. Be inventive and see what you can come up with :D
